Puromycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and protein synthesis inhibitor produced by Streptomyces alboniger, active in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Puromycin is a reversible inhibitor of dipeptidyl-peptidase II (serine peptidase) and cytosol alanyl aminopeptidase (metallopeptidase). Puromycin is used in cell biology as a selective agent in cell culture systems.
