Highly encephalitogenic fragment of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein.
MOG (35-55) (rat) is a fragment of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed at the surface of oligodendrocyte cells and on the outermost surface of the myelin sheath. MOG (35-55) (rat) is highly encephalitogenic, inducing strong T-cell and B-cell responses. As MOG (35-55) (rat) injection produces relapsing-remitting neurologic disease with clinical, histopathologic and immune similarities to multiple sclerosis, MOG induced demyelination is used as a model for MS research.
