Toxin from wasp venom.
Mastoparan is a peptide toxin from wasp venom with antimicrobial, antiparasitic and anticancer properties. Mastoparan exerts its bactericidal activity by binding to lipid membranes, inducing pores and defects, and leaking the internal contents of vesicles and cells. Mastoparan also shows potent anticancer activity towards leukaemia, myeloma, and breast cancer cells in animal models, also through a lytic mechanism.
