Histatin 5
£125.00 1mg
Antimicrobial peptide found in saliva.
Histatin 5 is a 24 amino acid histidine-rich cationic salivary peptide, formed with histatin 8 from post-translational cleavage of histatin 3. Histatins function as antimicrobial peptides and are important components of the innate immune system. Histatin 5 has broad spectrum antimicrobial action including activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and fungi including Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigans. Histatin 5 antifungal activity is caused by disruption to mitochondrial respiration through reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
