Endogenous angiotensin peptide fragment.
Angiotensin (1-7) is an endogenous peptide fragment and key component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). It is created from the conversion of angiotensin II (Ang II) into angiotensin (1 7) by angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and acts through activation of the non-AT1, non-AT2 receptor Mas. There are numerous examples of the effects of angiotensin (1 7) in the cardiovascular system where it counteracts the vasoconstrictive and proliferative effects of angiotensin II and also stimulates vasopressin release in vivo.
